Birdwatching tour on the Manu Route – Peru

Manu Road – Birdwatching Tour 2027 – One of the best birdwatching experiences on the planet

There are some places every birdwatcher should visit at least once in their life, and Manu National Park is undoubtedly one of them! They say it's the most biodiverse route in the world. Is it true? Let's find out together! 🙂

In June 2027, we will be embarking on an eight-day trek along one of South America's most spectacular altitudinal gradients, starting in the historic city of Cusco and descending from the Andes to the Peruvian Amazon. This route takes us through high Andean forests, cloud forests, and the Amazon rainforest, each with its own unique wildlife.

The Manu Route in Peru is home to over 600 bird species, making it one of the most biodiverse places in the world. During the tour, we'll have excellent opportunities to observe iconic species such as the Andean Cock-of-the-rock, Golden-headed Quetzal, Blue-banded Toucanet, and Paradise Tanager, as well as an incredible variety of hummingbirds, tanagers, antbirds, flycatchers, and many other species specific to each altitudinal zone. The itinerary has been designed to make the most of each day of birdwatching.

We'll begin by acclimatizing in Cusco before starting our descent along the famous Manu Road, considered one of the world's most legendary routes for birdwatching. We'll visit gardens specially prepared for nature photography and bird feeding, tour the Wayqecha Biological Station, and then venture into the cloud forests until we reach the Cock-of-the-Rock Lodge.

One of the most anticipated moments of the trip will be the visit to the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock lek, where we can observe its spectacular courtship behavior. We will also explore the renowned Manu Tanager Garden, famous for the large number of species that visit its feeders daily.

Over the next few days, we'll continue our descent to the Manu Biological Station, exploring secondary forests, trails, lagoons, and specialized hummingbird gardens like Inka Amazonia. The biological station boasts over 300 recorded species and offers excellent opportunities for both birdwatching and photography.

During the return trip we will travel along the Manu Road again, making strategic stops to look for species that are still missing from our lists and increase the chances of finding large birds of prey.

The trip is done in small groups, accompanied by specialized guides, combining bird watching, photography, nature and contact with local communities, always with a focus on responsible tourism.

The accommodations, chosen mainly for resting and continuing to observe birds in their gardens for those who wish, are immersed in the middle of a natural environment and have all the comforts to make your stay spectacular.

For those who wish to complete the experience, there is also the possibility of extending the trip by two more days to visit Machu Picchu, combining the extraordinary Amazonian biodiversity with one of the most important archaeological sites in the world.
