Sea, estuaries and the incredible Patagonian Steppe await us with their landscapes and birds, this site is the wintering area of one of the most incredible species in Argentina, the endemic Maca Tobiano that we can enjoy crossing the internal estuaries of Rio Gallegos

The city of Rio Gallegos will be our base, this place has a first-class hotel and gastronomic infrastructure and all the services.

Day 1
Meeting in Rio Gallegos

 

Our tour begins at the Rio Gallegos International Airport where we will meet at 12 noon, we will spend half a day observing birds in different points south of Rio Gallegos to try to find our first species.

In the afternoon, transfer to the hotel, check-in and welcome dinner.

Day 2
Birdwatching in the Coyle River Estuary

 

Breakfast and transfer to Coyle River with bird watching stops.
This river is located almost 90 km north of Río Gallegos, has a length of 350 km and runs from west to east. It rises in Laguna Esperanza, at the foot of the Cordillera and empties into the sea through Caleta Coig or Coyle, in Bahía Grande. It stands out for its great extension and its shallow depth; it is not a navigable river.
We will look for Hooded Grebe in this area. Of course, in addition, we can find steppe species.

In the cove there will be the possibility of observing crested ducks, Swans, Upland Goose Cormorants, Kelp and Dolphin gulls and of course the Hooded Grebe

Access to the Coyle River Estuary is subject to the conditions of the road. If we cannot enter, we have other points to try to observe the Hooded Grebe

Day 3
Provincial Route 1 and Punta Loyola

 

Breakfast and departure for bird watching south of Río Gallegos (RP1 and Punta Loyola). On the steppe circuit it will be an opportunity to find mammals, such as guanacos, foxes or skunks, but also birds such as Rheas, Finches and a lot of birds. Possibility of see some Albatross from the coast.

Day 4
Rio Gallegos Urban Reserve

 

Half a day of bird watching around Rio Gallegos to try to observe shorebirds, there is also the possibility of visiting the Urban Migratory Bird Reserve.
